Srinagar, February 09: Acting on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, the Food Safety team of the Drug and Food Control Organisation carried out a rigorous inspection drive in Srinagar. The inspection took place at Jehangir Chowk, Hari Singh High Street, and nearby markets.
Led by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar, Yamin ul Nabi, the drive focused on checking hygiene and safety standards at roadside eateries and Kashmiri snack stalls. The primary aim was to ensure strict compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, particularly regarding cleanliness and food handling practices.
During the inspection, officials examined food stalls and vendors to assess food preparation, storage, and hygiene measures. Vendors were educated on maintaining cleanliness and advised to protect food from contamination and pests. Authorities warned that failure to adhere to these guidelines could result in action under the FSS Act, including shutting down operations.
Additionally, food business operators preparing ready-to-eat meals were instructed to implement pest control measures at their establishments. They were also cautioned against setting up stalls near drains to prevent contamination and associated health risks. Strict action will be taken against those who fail to comply with these directives.
