Pulwama fighter defeats two-time IMMAF world champion Delyan Georgiev in career-defining international victory
Srinagar, August 2: In a landmark achievement for Indian mixed martial arts, Jammu and Kashmir’s rising MMA star Owais Yaqoob produced the biggest victory of his career by defeating previously unbeaten Bulgarian fighter Delyan Georgiev at BRAVE Combat Federation (BRAVE CF) 107 held in Burgas, Bulgaria.
The win marks one of the most significant international triumphs by an Indian MMA fighter in recent years, with Owais becoming the first professional to hand Georgiev a defeat. The Bulgarian fighter is a two-time IMMAF World Champion and had entered the contest with an unbeaten professional record.
The 27-year-old fighter from Murran village in Pulwama district showcased exceptional discipline, technique and confidence throughout the contest, earning a memorable victory on one of the world’s leading MMA platforms.
Speaking after the fight, Owais dedicated his success to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the entire nation.
“This victory means the world to me. I entered the cage carrying the hopes of my family, the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and all of India. Defeating an unbeaten world champion is a dream come true, but my journey doesn’t end here. I will continue working hard and strive for greater achievements while proudly representing India on the global stage,” he said.
The victory further cements Owais’ position as one of India’s brightest MMA prospects and adds another milestone to his rapidly growing career.
Before this bout, Owais had already established impressive momentum with a five-fight winning streak and was honoured as the BRAVE CF Breakout Fighter of the Year 2025, making this latest triumph an even bigger statement.
The contest attracted international attention as Georgiev competed under Team Topuria, while Owais represents Team Khabib at the renowned American Kickboxing Academy.
