SHOPIAN, AUGUST 29 BANN : Roohi Khan, the General Observer for the 37-Shopian Assembly Constituency, conducted a thorough inspection of polling stations in the Keller region today to evaluate their readiness and the availability of Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF) in preparation for the upcoming elections.
Her visit commenced at the Nagbal Polling Station, where she carefully assessed the facilities and instructed officials to improve the drainage system surrounding the station.
Throughout the day, Roohi Khan visited and evaluated a total of 11 polling stations, including those in Narapora and Zawoora. Her focus was on ensuring the availability of key AMF such as electricity, water, toilets, ramps, and sanitation.
She provided on-the-spot instructions for the permanent display of polling station information outside each location to enhance voter clarity and convenience.
The General Observer emphasized the importance of making polling stations accessible, particularly for women, senior citizens, and individuals with disabilities, to promote an inclusive and participatory election process. She also urged the maintenance of cleanliness at these stations through sanitation drives before the elections.
Roohi Khan also highlighted the significance of increasing voter turnout through Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) and outreach initiatives. She interacted with Booth Level Officers (BLOs), encouraging them to implement strategies to boost voter engagement.
Additionally, Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) were instructed to ensure that Village Level Workers (VLWs) or Panchayat Secretaries work alongside BLOs on election days.
The Observer’s proactive measures underscore her dedication to ensuring a transparent, fair, and well-organized election in the Shopian constituency.
