Srinagar, September 25 (BANN): In the second phase of the General Elections for the Legislative Assembly, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a significant voter turnout. As per the latest figures shared by the Chief Electoral Officer of J&K, 46.12% of voters had cast their votes by 3:00 PM across the 26 Assembly Constituencies where polling is taking place today.

The elections are being held amidst tight security arrangements, ensuring a smooth and peaceful voting process. Voters in different constituencies have been actively participating, reflecting a healthy democratic spirit across both Jammu and Kashmir regions.

Polling for this phase covers a wide range of constituencies, each vital for determining the future political landscape of the Union Territory. Political parties and independent candidates are vying for a place in the Assembly, hoping to secure the mandate of the people.

Constituency-Wise Voting Updates

While the overall turnout stands at 46.12%, some constituencies have seen higher participation, with long queues at polling stations, especially in rural areas, where voter enthusiasm has been remarkable. Urban areas have also reported steady participation, and local authorities are optimistic that the overall voter turnout will rise by the end of polling.

Voting Process and Security

The Election Commission of India has deployed a large number of security personnel across all constituencies to ensure free and fair elections. No major incidents of violence or disruption have been reported so far, which has contributed to the smooth progress of the electoral process.

Polling stations opened early in the morning, and despite intermittent rains in some areas, voters were seen coming out in large numbers to exercise their democratic right. Election officials have put in place all necessary measures, including the provision of basic facilities at polling stations and adherence to COVID-19 guidelines where required.

Focus on Youth and Women Voters

A noticeable aspect of this phase has been the active participation of young and first-time voters. Many young voters expressed their excitement about voting for the first time, believing it to be a step towards shaping the future of Jammu and Kashmir.

Women voters, too, have shown strong participation in various constituencies, marking a significant contribution to the voter turnout. Special arrangements were made to ensure their safety and convenience, encouraging more women to cast their votes.

Final Voting Hours

With several hours still left before polling concludes, the Election Commission is expecting a surge in voter turnout. Authorities are urging all eligible voters who haven’t yet cast their votes to visit their nearest polling stations and participate in this important democratic exercise.

The voting process will continue until 6:00 PM, after which the Election Commission will begin counting the votes to determine the outcome of the second phase of the Assembly Elections.

Stay tuned to BANN News for more updates on the Assembly Elections 2024 and the final voter turnout figures.
