SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 22 (BANN): Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha inaugurated the ‘Jashn-e-Sangam’ festival today at Tagore Hall, Srinagar. The event, jointly organized by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL) and Wadies Hindi Shiksha Samiti, is a three-day celebration focused on promoting art, culture, and language.

In his speech, the Lt Governor praised the collaborative efforts of the organizers in bringing such a significant cultural event to life. He highlighted that Jammu & Kashmir’s diverse cultural heritage, spanning literature, music, folk traditions, and art, plays a crucial role in uniting people. Events like ‘Jashn-e-Sangam’ serve as platforms for people from different regions and linguistic backgrounds to come together and celebrate shared cultural values, in line with the vision of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.’

The Lt Governor commended the contributions of non-Hindi speakers in promoting the Hindi language, including notable Kashmiri writers, poets, and literary figures.

“Individuals from non-Hindi-speaking regions have played a crucial role in advancing the Hindi language,” said the Lt Governor.

He also emphasized the importance of promoting Hindi and other languages among students, especially in areas where Hindi is not the native language. He acknowledged the global impact of Hindi cinema in spreading the language, while regional languages have also contributed significantly to the nation’s cultural and literary landscape. Furthermore, he noted that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has prioritized using local languages as mediums of instruction in schools, reinforcing unity and cultural pride.

The Lt Governor also mentioned key initiatives undertaken under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, focusing on the promotion of languages such as Hindi, Kashmiri, Dogri, Urdu, Gojri, Pahari, Punjabi, and Shina in J&K.

During the event, students from the Kashmir Division who excelled in Hindi in their 10th-grade examinations were honored by the Lt Governor. He encouraged young people to draw inspiration from the lives of literary figures such as Lalleshwari, Sheikh-ul-Alam, and Sant Kabir Das and to contribute to the promotion of language and literature.

Several dignitaries, including Principal Secretary Culture Department Sh Suresh Kumar Gupta, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Sh Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, J&K Bank Managing Director Sh Baldev Prakash, JKAACL Secretary Ms Harvinder Kour, and Patron of Wadies Hindi Shiksha Samiti Sh Kumar Manoj, were present at the event alongside prominent literary personalities.
