According to official sources , the Vande Bharat train service from Katra to Srinagar, initially planned for inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 17, 2025, has been postponed.

Sources also noted that no official announcement had been made earlier regarding the inauguration, and the circulating reports were unverified.

Previously, it was reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was expected to inaugurate the highly anticipated Vande Bharat train service between Katra and Srinagar on February 17.

The train route includes remarkable engineering feats such as the Anji Khad Bridge, featuring a 331-meter-high pylon, and the Chenab Bridge, which stands at 359 meters, making it the tallest railway bridge in the world, even surpassing the height of the Eiffel Tower. These infrastructures not only enhance connectivity but also showcase India’s progress in technology and infrastructure, an official stated.

The Vande Bharat train is built to operate efficiently even in severe winter conditions, enduring temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius, ensuring continuous service during extreme cold.

Running on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), the train will cover the 150-kilometer distance between the first and last stations in about 2 hours and 30 minutes. The journey includes key stops at Reasi and Banihal, according to an official.
