
Jammu, February 26 (BANN): Police have foiled an attempted bank robbery and arrested two individuals in the Hatli area of Kathua district.
According to officials, the incident occurred during the night between February 25 and 26 when two suspects, identified as Ankush Sharma, son of Parkash Chand from Darsoo, Udhampur, and Sunil Singh, son of Dharam Singh from Hatli, Kathua, broke into a J&K Bank branch by making an opening in its side wall.
A police spokesperson stated that while the duo was attempting to breach the strong room’s walls and lock, a night patrol team from Police Post Hatli noticed unusual activity within the bank premises and intervened. The suspects, however, took advantage of the darkness and fled the scene.
Following extensive efforts and technical assistance, police traced the absconding suspects to the Kootah area of Hiranagar and apprehended them on the same day.
A case under FIR No. 97/2025, registered under sections 324(4), 331(4), 305, and 62 of the BNS, has been lodged at Kathua Police Station. Further investigations are underway. (BANN)
