
Srinagar, Feb 24 (BANN): Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, conducted a detailed review of the preparations for the upcoming Holy Month of Ramadan and the celebration of Mahashivratri.
During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner assessed the availability of essential commodities in the market, including flowers, walnuts, fish, and lotus stems, which are significant for the Kashmiri Pandit community’s festival celebrations.
He instructed Deputy Commissioners to ensure an uninterrupted supply of electricity and water in Pandit colonies and at major temples. Additionally, he reviewed security measures and transport arrangements to facilitate a smooth observance of the religious festival.
Regarding preparations for the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Divisional Commissioner emphasized the need for proper arrangements to assist the public. He directed the Chief Engineer of KPDCL to ensure a continuous power supply, particularly during Sehri and Iftari hours. The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department was instructed to provide regular water supply and deploy water tankers where necessary.
Moreover, he stressed the importance of maintaining an adequate supply of quality meat and poultry in the markets. He also directed all Deputy Commissioners to conduct extensive market inspections to ensure the availability of quality essential goods.
To maintain cleanliness, he instructed the concerned officials to carry out sanitation drives at prominent mosques and shrines, ensuring a hygienic environment for worshippers.
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner of SMC, Deputy Commissioners, SSPs, and divisional and district officers from the PDD, R&B, PHE, Transport, and FCS&CA departments, along with officials from the Traffic Police.
