Srinagar, Aug 25: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch, J&K, has filed a chargesheet against a man accused of allegedly cheating a family by promising to arrange cancer medicines at a lower cost.
According to an official statement, the chargesheet has been submitted before the Court of Sub-Judge, Srinagar, in connection with FIR No. 25/2026 registered under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The case originated from a written complaint in which the complainant alleged that the accused had offered to provide medicines for his wife, who was undergoing treatment for cancer, at comparatively cheaper rates.
The complainant further alleged that, based on this assurance, he paid a substantial amount of money running into lakhs of rupees. However, the medicines were allegedly never supplied.
During the investigation, the EOW Kashmir examined the allegations and said that the matter was substantiated. It was also revealed that the accused and the complainant had known each other since their school days and had studied together at a boarding school more than four decades ago.
Following the completion of the investigation, the Crime Branch presented the chargesheet before the competent court for further judicial proceedings.
The Crime Branch has appealed to the public to remain cautious of financial and economic frauds and to report any suspicious activity to the concerned authorities. Further proceedings in the case will be decided by the court in accordance with law.
