Kangan, April 5 : Member of Parliament and senior National Conference (NC) leader, Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi, once again voiced his stance on the Waqf Amendment Bill during a public gathering in Mamer, Kangan on Saturday.
While speaking to media personnel after inaugurating a local shop, Mian Altaf said he had already presented his opinion on the matter in Parliament. “I have clearly shared my viewpoint in the Parliament. Everything that needed to be said was conveyed there. The public has seen and heard my statements, and there is no need for further explanation,” he stated, according to reports from the Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
Addressing the ongoing public outcry against the bill, the MP highlighted that the objections were coming from diverse sections of society. “This is not just a Muslim concern. People from all backgrounds—intellectuals, social activists, and individuals from different faiths and regions—have also raised their voices,” he said.
He emphasized that while the Muslim community is actively speaking against the bill, members of other communities are equally concerned.
Mian Altaf added that discussions around the bill are still ongoing and public engagement on the issue will continue. “We will keep the people informed, continue our outreach, and react to developments as they happen. Time will tell how things unfold, but we are closely monitoring the situation,” he added.
The Waqf Amendment Bill, which proposes revisions in the administration of Waqf properties, has sparked widespread protests and debates. Opponents of the bill argue that it may lead to increased governmental control over religious assets.
