Authorities Submitted Report with Recommendations, Says DC Pulwama
Srinagar, Feb 03 : Five months after the tragic death of a young girl from Pulwama, her family and relatives staged a protest outside the Chief Minister’s residence in Srinagar. They demanded strict action against the doctors responsible for her death due to alleged medical negligence.
The protesters accused the authorities of failing to take action against the doctors involved. Holding placards and banners, they called for justice for Saboora, who reportedly died from an anesthesia overdose after a routine septoplasty at Mohammadia Nursing Institute in Gangoo on September 15 last year.
Saboora’s mother described the heartbreaking incident, stating that her daughter was taken for surgery at 2:50 p.m. Hours later, at 5:50 p.m., doctors informed them that she was experiencing severe palpitations and needed to be shifted to a hospital in Srinagar. Unfortunately, by the time they arrived, she had already passed away.
The family said that since there was no elected government at the time of the incident, justice was delayed. Now that a government is in place, they urged CM Omar Abdullah and Dr. Farooq Abdullah to intervene and ensure justice.
After Saboora’s death, her family held multiple protests, prompting investigations by committees at both the district and Directorate of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) levels. The district administration had also temporarily sealed the private hospital.
However, the family claims that justice is still delayed, despite their continuous efforts. They urged the authorities to make the DHSK investigation report public as soon as possible.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, told news agency that the district committee has submitted its report with recommendations. He stated that the hospital-related recommendations were implemented through the Chief Medical Officer, while recommendations concerning the doctors were sent to the Director of Health Services Kashmir and Government Medical College Srinagar for further action.__KNO
