According to officials, the arrests were made during a series of overnight raids at multiple locations across Srinagar, and the weapon used in the crime has also been recovered.

In a statement issued to the news agency , a police spokesperson said that Srinagar Police acted swiftly after a violent assault was reported in Qamarwari, leading to the successful arrest of all three suspects.

The incident took place on October 14, 2025, near Haroon Bakery, Hilal Abad, Qamarwari, where 18-year-old Noman Yaqoob Khanday was attacked with an axe by unidentified individuals. His father, Mohammad Yaqoob Khanday, a resident of Bilal Colony, Qamarwari, immediately lodged a complaint at Police Post Qamarwari.

Following the report, a case (FIR No. 100/2025) was registered at Police Station Parimpora under Sections 126(2), 115(2), and 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police launched a thorough investigation, which included scanning CCTV footage, tracing suspected vehicles, and conducting multiple raids. The inquiry led to the identification and arrest of three accused: Sahil Yaqoob Grustoo, son of Mohd Yaqoob Grustoo; Farooq alias Farhan Ahmad Dar, son of Gh. Nabi Dar; and Bilal Ahmad Guroo, son of Zahoor Ahmad Guroo—all residents of Boatman Colony, Bemina.

The spokesperson said all three were arrested during late-night operations, and the weapon of offence has been seized. Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was motivated by a personal dispute, though other aspects of the case are being examined.

Srinagar Police reaffirmed their commitment to tackling social crimes and maintaining law and order in the city, stressing that those involved in such violent acts will face strict action and no leniency. —(KNO)
