
Annantnag , 14/Nov/2024 : Today, under HADP Project No. 18, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Anantnag held an informative awareness program centered on reducing pesticide use in agriculture and the vital role of orchard sanitation.
Over 100 participants, including farmers, orchardists, entrepreneurs, students, and local stakeholders, attended the event, emphasizing the community’s commitment to sustainable farming.
Dr. Ishtiyaq A. Khan, Head of KVK-Anantnag, inaugurated the event with a warm welcome. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the fruit industry’s essential contribution to the local economy, noting that horticulture remains a primary livelihood source for many in the region.
Dr. Khan discussed the importance of adopting advanced production practices, with a particular focus on sustainable methods to support the industry’s long-term growth. He also shared a detailed presentation on “Scientific Orchard Sanitation,” outlining best practices for maintaining orchard health and reducing pest threats.
Dr. Tariq Rasool, the Principal Investigator of the project, delivered a key presentation on “Minimizing Pesticide Use in Agriculture.” His session highlighted innovative approaches and sustainable technologies that can reduce reliance on traditional pesticides while enhancing future fruit yields. His insights were well-received, generating interest in more eco-friendly agricultural methods among attendees.
