
SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 16 (BANN): Omar Abdullah officially assumed office as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir today, marking a pivotal moment in the region’s political landscape. His arrival at the Civil Secretariat was met with an enthusiastic reception from government officials and staff, setting the tone for a new era of governance.
Upon his entrance, the Chief Minister was honored with a ceremonial guard of honor, followed by a warm welcome from officers and employees. Omar Abdullah then proceeded to his office, where he was greeted by his team before formally taking charge of his duties.
Soon after assuming office, the Chief Minister held an introductory meeting with key administrative secretaries to outline the priorities of his new administration. Attendees included Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, ministers Sakeena Itoo, Javed Ahmad Rana, Javid Ahmad Dar, Satish Sharma, along with Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, and other top officials.
At the beginning of the meeting, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo extended a warm welcome to the newly appointed Chief Minister, assuring him of the administration’s unwavering support in implementing the government’s vision. “We are committed to realizing the objectives of the government and promoting the well-being of the people,” Dulloo stated.
In his address, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed gratitude to the officers for their efforts in facilitating peaceful elections across Jammu and Kashmir. He commended the people’s trust in the democratic process and the institutions that uphold it.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir have placed their faith in democracy, and we must rise to meet their expectations,” Omar Abdullah remarked.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of a governance model that prioritizes the people, stressing that the primary responsibility of the government is to serve its citizens. He acknowledged that a gap has formed between the government and the public in recent years but reaffirmed his commitment to closing this divide.
“Our approach will be people-friendly, and we will work with a positive mindset to deliver the best possible outcomes for the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Omar Abdullah said. He further stressed that bridging the gap between the government and its citizens is a top priority, and his administration would work tirelessly to bring the government closer to the people.
“Democratic governments are preferred across India because of their ability to connect with the people, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that the people of Jammu and Kashmir feel heard and represented,” he added.
The Chief Minister concluded by expressing his eagerness to collaborate closely with the officers, pledging full cooperation and expecting the same in return to achieve the shared goal of progress and development for the region.
