
Sopore, Nov 09 (BANN) — A terrorist was killed in a gunfight that erupted on Saturday evening between security forces and militants in the forested area of Rampura Rajpora in Sopore, located in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Officials told the News agency that a joint team of security forces began a search operation in the area, leading to the encounter.
“As the search team neared the suspected hideout, the militants opened fire, prompting the forces to retaliate, which resulted in an encounter,” officials stated.
The Kashmir Zone Police shared on X: “Following specific intelligence about Militants in the Rampora Sopore area of Baramulla, a joint anti-terror operation was initiated by Police and security forces. During the search, an exchange of gunfire occurred. More information will be provided as details emerge.”
One militant was confirmed dead in the ongoing operation in the area.
This marks the second encounter within Sopore’s jurisdiction in under 24 hours, as two militants were neutralized by security forces in Sahipora the previous day.
Notably, this is the fourth such operation in north Kashmir after incidents in Bandipora, Kupwara, and Sopore.
