Srinagar , 28_Jan_2025 (BANN): The Kashmir Valley witnessed a deep sense of spirituality on Tuesday as thousands of devotees came together to mark Mehraj-ul-Alam, the sacred occasion commemorating the ascension of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to the heavens.
Observed on the 27th of Rajab, this significant day saw prayers and religious gatherings at mosques and shrines across the region. The largest gathering was at the Hazratbal Shrine on the scenic banks of Dal Lake, where the revered Holy Relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), known as “Moie-e-Muqadas,” was displayed to the faithful.
The Hazratbal Shrine, holding profound importance for Muslims in the Valley, became the center of night-long prayers, also known as “Shab Khawani.” Men, women, and children attended these prayers with great devotion, seeking blessings, peace, and prosperity for the region. Following the Fajr (dawn) prayers, the Holy Relic was displayed to the worshippers, further enhancing the spiritual atmosphere. The display continued after the Zuhr prayers, drawing even larger crowds.
The Holy Relic will remain on display for public viewing after each prayer for the next two days and on the upcoming Friday, allowing devotees from across Kashmir to pay their respects. This tradition is one of the highlights of Mehraj-ul-Alam and is deeply cherished by the faithful.
In addition to Hazratbal, other shrines and mosques, such as the famous Jenab Sahab Soura, also held night-long prayer sessions. These gatherings brought local communities together in unity, praying for the well-being and harmony of the region.
Authorities made special arrangements to manage the large influx of worshippers. Srinagar Smart City Buses were deployed to provide transportation for devotees from different parts of the Valley to the Hazratbal Shrine. Officials assured that these services and other necessary measures would remain in place until Friday to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
A Waqf Board representative highlighted that additional seating, security arrangements, and facilities for the elderly and differently-abled were put in place to make the experience comfortable for everyone. Meanwhile, the traffic department implemented a detailed plan to manage vehicle and pedestrian movement around the shrine. Special transport services, including additional buses, were introduced to help worshippers reach the shrine conveniently.
The entire area surrounding Hazratbal Shrine was decorated with lights, creating a serene atmosphere and adding to the spiritual significance of the occasion. Devotees expressed gratitude for the efforts of the authorities in ensuring safety and comfort during the event.
As the celebrations continue through the week, the faithful remain united in prayer, seeking blessings for peace and prosperity in Kashmir. Authorities have pledged to maintain all arrangements and provide support to ensure the smooth observance of this sacred time.
