SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 21: A grand Mushaira was conducted today at the Auditorium of the Government College of Education (GCOE), M.A. Road, Srinagar, under the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness about the significance of voting and democracy.
This event was organized by the Nodal Principal of Kashmir Division Colleges and the Returning Officer of the Lal Chowk constituency. The Chief Guest was Election Observer Chandresh Kumar, while Police Observer R. Suhas was the Guest of Honour.
Other notable attendees included SVEEP Nodal Officer Akhter Husain Qazi, Media Nodal Officer for CEO office J&K Sapna Kotwal, Returning Officer of Lal Chowk Constituency Amir Choudhary, and Prof. Lateef Ahmad Shah, Nodal Officer for SVEEP Lal Chowk Assembly Constituency, alongside other officers.
The Mushaira, moderated by Arshid Souleh, featured participants from ten different colleges in the city. Ten acclaimed poets presented their verses, focusing on themes related to voting and the democratic process, inspiring the audience with their thoughtful and creative expressions.
In his remarks, the Election Observer highlighted the essential role of voting in a democratic society and even shared some poetry lines to emphasize this. Police Observer R. Suhas echoed these thoughts, stressing the value of each vote.
SVEEP Nodal Officer Akhter Husain Qazi and Media Nodal Officer Sapna Kotwal also spoke on the importance of voting, with Akhter reciting a few couplets on the subject. Prof. Lateef Ahmad Shah added his insights on the power of casting a vote.
The event began with a welcoming address by the Nodal Principal of the College, Prof. Seema Naz, who expressed her appreciation for the presence of all the guests. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. A.G. Kumar.
This Mushaira beautifully combined artistic expression with civic duty, effectively engaging both students and faculty in discussions about democracy through the medium of poetry.
