
Pulwama, January 01(BANN): In preparation for the second spell of adverse weather forecast this winter, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, chaired a meeting with officers and officials on Wednesday to evaluate the district’s readiness.
During the meeting, Dr. Qayoom emphasized the importance of proactive and coordinated efforts to mitigate the impact of severe weather conditions. He praised the sectoral officers and their field teams for their effective response to the recent snowfall and urged them to maintain similar coordination for the anticipated larger weather events.
The priority was placed on maintaining essential services, including water and electricity supply, and ensuring prompt snow clearance, especially on critical hospital roads.
Departments such as MED and R&B were instructed to ensure the continuous functionality of these services.Officers from MED, R&B, PMGSY, ULBs, and RDD were directed to maintain seamless coordination to prevent any jurisdictional overlaps or communication lapses.
Dr. Qayoom also focused on health sector readiness, stressing the availability of essential medicines and emergency services, particularly in remote and vulnerable areas.The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) was instructed to ensure the advance evacuation of expectant women and other patients requiring long-term care, whose travel might be hindered by snowfall.
The Public Health Engineering (PHE) department was directed to ensure the availability of drinking water through tankers wherever needed. Disaster response teams were instructed to remain on high alert to handle emergencies efficiently.
Additionally, the DC directed concerned officers to stock adequate quantities of essential commodities to avoid shortages and to maintain road connectivity in both rural and urban areas through systematic snow clearance operations and diligent collaboration between departments.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADCs) of Pulwama, Awantipora, and Tral, the Chief Medical Officer Pulwama, and officers from various departments, ensuring the delivery of timely and effective services to the people of Pulwama throughout the winter months.__BANN
