Srinagar, Feb 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch train services to Kashmir on February 17, marking a historic achievement in the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the specially designed Vande Bharat Express from the Jammu division. “After years of dedicated efforts, advanced engineering, and unwavering commitment, Kashmir’s long-awaited railway connectivity has become a reality. The Vande Bharat Express will soon operate on this crucial route,” the official stated.
As part of the USBRL initiative, Indian Railways has conducted multiple successful trial runs, crossing some of the country’s most significant bridges. The Anji Khad Bridge, featuring a 331-meter-high pylon, stands as an engineering marvel, while the Chenab Bridge, soaring at 359 meters, holds the record as the world’s tallest railway bridge, surpassing the Eiffel Tower.
These infrastructural feats not only improve connectivity in the region but also highlight India’s technological advancements. “The train is specially built to function efficiently in the extreme winter conditions of Jammu and Kashmir along the Katra-Srinagar rail route,” the official explained. “It includes advanced climate-resistant technologies, such as heating systems to prevent freezing of water and bio-toilet tanks.”
Additionally, the air-brake system has been optimized to ensure smooth operation even in sub-zero temperatures. “The Vande Bharat Express is also equipped with embedded heating elements in the windshield to automatically defrost the driver’s front lookout glass, ensuring clear visibility in harsh winter conditions,” the official added.
“Beyond these specialized features, the train includes all standard Vande Bharat amenities, such as fully air-conditioned coaches, automatic plug doors, and mobile charging sockets.” Stay tuned for more updates on this historic development.
