Srinagar, Aug 28 (BANN): The meteorological department reported on Wednesday that the weather in Jammu and Kashmir is expected to remain mostly cloudy today, with light to moderate rainfall anticipated across various regions.
Independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif Keng, in a statement to BANN, mentioned that while significant rainfall is not expected during the day, weather activity is likely to intensify by the late evening and night, particularly in North Kashmir.
“Rain is expected to persist in Kupwara district, with a 40% chance of extending into parts of Central Kashmir. South Kashmir, however, may experience less intense rainfall,” Keng explained.
He further noted that on August 29, the weather system is projected to expand, likely bringing rain showers to most parts of Jammu and Kashmir by the afternoon.
“This expansion could lead to a drop in daytime temperatures, with Kashmir plains likely to see temperatures ranging between 18°C and 23°C,” Keng added.
He also mentioned that the Jammu region might experience early morning cloud formation on August 30, which could move into Kashmir, leading to rain in both regions. However, the latest forecasts suggest a possible decrease in rainfall intensity compared to the previous day. If the rain persists throughout the day, temperatures could hover between 16°C and 20°C, with an expected improvement in weather conditions by the end of the day.
The anticipated rainfall from August 28 to 30 is likely to impact various areas of J&K at different times and intensities. The heaviest rainfall is expected in Kupwara and the higher elevations of North Kashmir, including Gurez Valley. The first snowfall of the season could occur at higher altitudes, particularly in North Kashmir, followed by South Kashmir.
Moreover, the ongoing rain showers have heightened the risk of flash floods and cloudbursts, especially in North Kashmir, Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, and Rajouri. Landslides and shooting stones are also likely along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, making travel hazardous.—(BANN)
