
Ramban, August 31 : The Jammu and Kashmir Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has apprehended a revenue official in the Sanasar area of Ramban district for soliciting and receiving a bribe of Rs 40,000.
According to a statement provided to News Agency , an ACB spokesperson reported that they had received a formal complaint against a public servant named Farooq Ahmed Girdwar from Sanasar, who was allegedly demanding Rs 60,000 to process a fard case for the complainant. “Following negotiations, the amount was reduced to Rs 40,000,” the statement revealed.
The complainant, choosing not to comply with the bribe demand, approached the ACB to initiate legal proceedings against the official. Upon receiving the complaint, the ACB conducted a covert verification, which confirmed the bribe demand by the accused. As a result, a case under FIR No. 02/2024, U/S 7 PC Act 1988, was registered at the ACB Police Station in Doda, and the investigation commenced.
The statement further mentioned that the ACB set up a trap, catching the accused in the act of accepting the Rs 40,000 bribe from the complainant. The ACB team arrested him on the spot, recovering the bribe money in the presence of independent witnesses. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
